EBHS 2020 Atlanta Cancelled

Posted on: March 16th, 2020 by Olli Turunen

Dear EBHS participants and guests,

I am writing to inform you that, with regret, the Board of Trustees of the Economic and Business History Society (EBHS) have decided to cancel the EBHS annual conference in Atlanta that was scheduled to be held 28-30 May 2020.

The pandemic Coronavirus Covid19 has led to significant restrictions on international travel and has serious potential health implications for conference attendees and, indeed, for society more widely. Under these circumstances, holding the annual conference is, as we are sure you can imagine, completely impractical. We apologise for the inconvenience that this may cause.

If you have already registered and paid for the Atlanta conference via the EBHS website, we will be working over the next few days to refund registration fees.

The EBHS conference in 2021 is going to be held in Porto, Portugal. We have arranged with the incoming President and Program Chair for Porto 2021 that your accepted paper for this year’s conference has been automatically accepted for Porto 2021. There will, of course, be scope for submitting additional or alternative papers in the normal way when the CFP opens later this year.

If you have any queries or questions in relation to this, please email the President of the EBHS at:

simon.mollan@york.ac.uk

We are very disappointed that we have had to cancel this year’s conference, but we hope to see you at EBHS Porto in 2021.

With best wishes,

Simon Mollan (President) and Craig McMahon (Program Chair)

CfP open, submission system, registration and journal online again

Posted on: February 16th, 2020 by EBHS

Dear EBHS members and guests,

The Atlanta conference submission and registration systems are now open again after backend software updates of the conference and journal sections of our website. Please check the Atlanta conference site here. You can still send paper and panel proposals directly by email to Program Chair Craig McMahon (craig.mcmahon@villanova.edu).

Our journal Essays in Economic & Business History has only the 2019 issue online. We are working to get our archives back online and are improving the website in the process. In the meantime, you can browse the archive metadata on our DOAJ site. Authors, you can find the new, improved submission page here.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Hope to see you in Atlanta!

Call for Papers Extended!

The Economic and Business History Society (EBHS) is now accepting proposals for our 45th Annual Conference, to be held from May 28 to 30, 2020, at the Sheraton Atlanta, in downtown Atlanta, Georgia. Call for Papers is open until February 17, 2020. Our general theme is Economic and Business History at the Crossroads. Here we would encourage reflections on ‘crossroads’, as sign of cultural and commercial interchange, geographic meeting places, exchanges and entrepots, and temporal and historical moments of divergence and contingency. However, individual proposals for presentations on any aspect of economic, business, or financial history are welcome, as are proposals for whole panels. We also encourage submissions from graduate students and non-academic affiliates.

Please send paper and panel proposals temporarily directly to Program Chair Craig McMahon (craig.mcmahon@villanova.edu).
